Fear and Qi

Following up on last week's quote from the yellow emperor's inner classic (Su Wen 39), the answer continues:

"Fear causes the essence to retreat inward; when this occurs, the upper jiao (chest) becomes closed. When it is closed, qi returns downward and accumulates in the lower jiao (below the navel), causing distension; thus, qi fails to circulate properly."

As described here, fear may lead to a disruption in the heart-kidneys axis (in CM terms).

Restoring this connection is a crucial part of healing processes & internal cultivation.

In tomorrow's class we'll explore exercises that mobilize and circulate Qi in the lower Dan Tian.
